Ciao Patrizio e ciao Susy (anzi, dovrei dirvi Ia Orana)
Sono Michele del Gulliver; con tutte le persone che avete conosciuto nei vostri viaggi probabilmente non vi ricordate di me, ma tanto per rinfrescarvi un po' la memoria...
La prima volta ci siamo incontrati in Martinica dove ero appena arrivato con la mia barca dalla traversata Atlantica ed avete poi pubblicato in una puntata di Turisti per caso l'intervista. E la seconda volta proprio qui in Polinesia, a Raiatea. Le riprese di Tamata, la barca del buon Bernard, l'incontro sulla mia barca con tanto di spaghettata etc. La parte di filmato andò poi in onda nella puntata nella quale i Turisti per caso si trasformavano in Velisti per Caso. Dal 2000 sono in Polinesia e questa terra e la sua gente non ha ancora smesso di affascinarmi e da anni oramai scrivo sulla e della Polinesia un po' dappertutto, anche per sdebitarmi per l'accoglienza e la loro generosità. Ho scritto sul vostro sito un mio articolo dal titolo "Polinesia: Istruzioni per l'uso", una miniguida alla programmazione del viaggio ed in particolare per coloro che se lo organizzano da soli e vogliono vivere la polinesia e non solo visitarla. Ho scritto vari articoli che vanno dall'Heiva all'accoglienza polinesiana, piuttosto che sulle Perle di Tahiti e il tatuaggio. Se lo ritenete opportuno posso inserirle nel vostro sito; ritengo possano essere utili a coloro che si accingono a programmare un viaggio che non sia fatto solo di overwater e palme. Caro Michele,
giuro che mi ricordo perfettamente! Tra l'altro ti sono riconoscente per avermi in ogni caso rinfrescato la memoria (un sacco di gente viceversa mi telefona e mi dice semplicemente: "Ciao, sono Mario..." E io che di Mario ne conosco 12 non so mai che dire...). Ma nel tuo caso non era necessario. Come stai? Dove sei esattamente? Dove hai la barca? Io e gli altri miei complici (Syusy in primis) sogniamo di riportare la nostra Adriatica in Pacifico, ma è difficilissimo: gli italiani - come sai - fanno fatica ad arrivarci, hanno paura della lunghezza del volo e dei costi. Quindi stiamo facendo iniziative qui, in Italia e in Mediterraneo. Se hai racconti di viaggio, diari di viaggio, descrizioni di viaggio e vuoi mandarceli, beh... mandaceli! Per me il Pacifico resta il più bel posto del mondo.

Brevi note per comprendere la realtà polinesiana
Una premessa è d’obbligo.
L’approccio ad una nuova realtà, una nuova cultura, deve essere fatto senza preconcetti, con disponibilità ed una buona dose di sana curiosità. La Polinesia e più in particolare le Isole della Società e solo quattro atolli del vasto arcipelago delle Tuamotu sono diventati la meta privilegiata del turismo ed in particolare del turismo legato alle nozze, ma il mito dei Mari del Sud non nasce a partire dalla bellezza delle isole, delle lagune, del clima o comunque non solo a partire da questo. Il mito si è costruito e si alimenta attorno al modo di vivere dei polinesiani, della loro cultura e della loro storia, della loro innata ospitalità e generosità. La Polinesia non potrebbe essere la stessa senza di loro. Questo anche per suggerirvi di programmare questo viaggio come una opportunità di scoperta e di conoscenza senza nulla togliere alla sua specificità e unicità: il viaggio di nozze!
Cercherò di introdurvi a questa realtà con alcune parole chiave; a voi poi di approfondirle se ne avrete voglia e opportunità.
La Polinesia ha iniziato ad avere i primi contatti con l’occidente e conseguenti scambi culturali e commerciali agli inizi del 1800. Bougainville e Cook sbarcano a Tahiti nel 1768/69 e i polinesiani o meglio i Ma’ohi, non conoscevano ancora il metallo. Ciò per dire che il popolo polinesiano ha fatto in 200 anni il percorso dall’era della pietra a quella post informatica: in una manciata di generazioni.
In qualsiasi altro popolo ciò avrebbe prodotto dei grossi ed irrimediabili scompensi; ne abbiamo esempi in tutto il mondo. Ma qui non è accaduto, e questo grazie alla filosofia di vivere tipica polinesiana, oltre alla loro apertura verso il nuovo e la grande curiosità e disponibilità. Certo, vi sono contraddizioni evidenti, come la ricerca di una rinnovata identità dalle tinte un po' sfumate, tuttavia non come ci si potrebbe aspettare dopo salti generazionali di questa portata. Ciò è da tenere sempre in prima considerazione, in primo piano, quando si osserva la realtà del Fenua: una imprescindibile chiave di lettura.
"Fenua" in lingua ma’hoi vuole esprimere ciò che noi riassumiamo nel termine "Paese", ossia la terra e gli uomini che vivono in una nazione. Per il ma’hoi la terra, ossia l’isola e gli uomini che la abitano, sono un tutt’uno indissolubile. Alla nascita, la placenta viene sotterrata nella terra della famiglia e nello stesso luogo viene piantato un albero da frutto, un albero dal quale potrà in seguito trarre sostegno materiale e spirituale per lui e la sua discendenza.
La Placenta (pufenua) e la terra (fenua) nella quale dimora è una forma simbolica del suo essere ma’hoi e appartenere alla sua terra. Si, perché nella tradizione di questo popolo "l’uomo appartiene alla terra e non il contrario". La proprietà individuale certo esiste ma è una proprietà familiare e di norma non in vendita; tanto più che nella stessa terra verranno tumulati i membri della famiglia (nelle isole vedrete spesso nei giardini delle tombe). A parte Tahiti, nelle altre isole questo concetto è ancora presente ed è difficile trovare terra in vendita, e anche quando se ne trova non è facile concludere l’acquisto poiché c’è sempre qualche rivendicazione da parte di membri della famiglia che non sono d’accordo. Se a questo poi si aggiunge che solo recentemente si sta cercando di costruire un catasto che sia degno di questo nome potete ben capire quali noie può avere l’eventuale acquirente.
Comunque, l’acculturazione occidentale sta relegando sempre più questo concetto di terra nel dimenticatoio degli usi e costumi di un tempo e la nozione del profitto ha cominciato a prendere il sopravvento. Giocoforza il soppiantare la trasmissione orale della proprietà (seppur riconosciuta da tutti gli abitanti dell’isola) con la forma scritta del Catasto .
I “FETI’I “ (persone unite da un legame di parentela), formano la grande famiglia polinesiana. Tradizionalmente la famiglia polinesiana è vasta, quindi complessa e fluttuante: fratelli, sorelle e loro congiunti, i loro figli sovente numerosi e in alcuni casi sposati, mogli e concubine dei figli, genitori, vivono sulla stessa terra di famiglia, in uno spazio comunitario e il più delle volte condividono le risorse del “ Fa’a’apu” ( letteralmente: "il giardino che ogni cosa ha") e della pesca. Questa organizzazione della società tradizionale va man mano lasciando il passo a quella che viene chiamata la petite famille: l’omologazione occidentale che prevede un padre, una madre e i figli.
La petite famille si struttura differentemente per adattarsi ad un mondo sempre più urbano ed occidentale, ma i valori tradizionali della grande famiglia restano per fortuna sempre vivi.
Il minimo avvenimento familiare è l’occasione per riunirsi e fare la festa insieme e dividere il grande pasto dove ognuno contribuisce portando qualcosa . In queste occasioni, e ce ne sono tante, uno dei soggetti preferiti di discussione è il legame di parentela con quello o l’altro feti’i. E’ bello trovare un legame comune, anche lontano. Tutto ciò dà l’impressione a noi, “popaa“ visitatori, stranieri, che tutti, in un modo o nell’altro, sono imparentati.
Questo attaccamento alla vita comunitaria e la generosità e solidarietà familiare, come pure la nozione di famiglia allargata, è ancora ben presente e salda oggigiorno.
Anche questa è un’altra chiave di lettura importante per comprendere la realtà polinesiana odierna.
