At Rapallo Zoe has gone up to the castle to get Silvia Macchiavello to tell her the story of the great assault by Dragut. In 1549, the fierce pirate Dragut and his men assaulted Rapallo castle, at the time exposed to the sea without much protection, with an ambush late at night that proved a true disaster! Dragut abducted, enslaved and took away towards Africa 100 men and 100 women at the height of their strength, leaving in Rapallo only the most elderly people. This obviously meant inflicting heavy damage on the town’s economy, besides sowing panic because it meant pirate raids were getting closer to the Maritime Republic of Genoa ...
