Log book

According to the famous comic strip "Donald Duck and the night of the Saracens", Varigotti is a place of mystery. In that story, Donald Duck and Co., following the indications of a treasure map, arrive in the Ligurian village, finding it deserted, however, because of the arrival of Saracen pirates. The historian Giacomo Nervi explains that this story is inspired by the Saracen invasions which took place in about the year 1000.

As a testimony to the contaminations of the past, the buildings on the beach of the village are also called “Saracen houses”, they are low and some have no roof. The landscapes too are faithfully reproduced in the comic strip: the streets, the panorama, even the promontory of Punta Crena. At the end of the story we discover, to the great chagrin of Uncle Donald, that the map only indicated Varigotti, the true treasure!
